Mrs N H Jordan reports a productive year with rising bank balances from £35/11/3 to £40/19/8. The group organized a Foundation Day demo, May street stall, November lacro display, Caulfield trip, bonfire night profits, and fundraising for blazers. Donations included four silver items and a boxing night supper. The auxiliary purchased cups and saucers and hopes for a new fire station. Mrs Paynter praised. leadership retained for 1954-55.

Cycling scratch man wins 15 mile race at Strathmerton

Two former Shepparton club mates of OConnor make their first appearance with the club Bernie OConnor and Phil Perkins. B Mellon led at halfway from B OConnor and Perkins as E Fraser fell P OConnor and A Dewan moved up. They edged clear after Yarroweyah with Pat OConnor sprinting to the line in a strong finish with Jones and Pat featured in the race.

Younghusband Ltd looks for another good season in Australia

The report notes eight consecutive good seasons, with rain in the south and optimism for winter. Sheep numbers total 123 million at the 1953 census, cattle about 15 million, and wheat receipts of 1824 million bushels for 1953-54. Wool sales reached 134,318 bales, with a 4380 bales carry forward. Prices stay remunerative, and Russia bought over 20 million pounds of wool. The company plans share issues and expands via TLA Fairbairn acquisition, with 48 branches. The board thanks staff and expects another solid year amid high costs and tax concerns.

Ken Grant Sets Course Record at Cobram Barooga

Ken Grant shot 67 on the Cobram Barooga course to establish a new course record in a bogey event, finishing four up but losing the trophy to Peter Gorman who carded 76. Gorman 5 up, Grant 4 up, other scores listed. Cobram Pennant team beat Numurkah 4-1. Reg Woods broke 15 handicap with net 38 to win stroke event.
