In Victoria and Britain women step forward as the main force against industrial stoppages. They plan to picket Parliament and even consider domestic strikes to curb idle workers, signaling a shift in morale and social power.
Berrigan prepares for a noted loss as Mr Alex Reynoldson and his family depart after a life spent in public service. He served on the Shire Council, led as president, was wartime treasurer for the Patriotic and War Fund, active in the Re-Patriation Committee, and Elder and secretary of the Presbyterian Church.
Mrs N Tolett visited her parents Mr and Mrs Gate of Cobram this week. Mrs C Hudson spent the weekend with her Cobram parents Mr and Mrs Sheppard. Mrs Gordon Dudley is holidaying at Melbourne and Lorne. Mr J Fowles plans a six week Melbourne Canberra Sydney trip. Mr S H Scott and Mr Athol Down depart for a six week Reso tour to Darwin and Alice Springs. Miss Joan Shinnick takes a fortnight in Melbourne. Nurse Lois Thompson spent the weekend with Cobram parents Mr and Mrs C A Thompson.
A May meeting led by Drs O Dwyer and Stokes discusses barring two resource practices near Wirbill Street by the ice house. The council prepares notice to enforce the prohibition and warns campers away from the area.
Last Saturday's football match impressed despite a hard win. Connie Butts broke a finger and will miss play. recovery hoped. The ladies' committee raised £8 at tea. Hare drives west of Cobram and south of Yarroweyah netted forty hares. about 140 escaped. Bill Mc. caught a fox. auctions held for foreigners. The drive day featured numerous characters and ends with plans for another drive. Thanks given to R. Ross and Roscoe Coldwell for trucks. refreshments provided.
