Accident Near Finley Injures Tocumyah Youth

An 18 year old youth Ted Dolly of Tocum Yah sustained severe head injuries while scoop work on an irrigation site at Mr S Dudleys property. His tractor struck soft clay causing the accident. He was taken to Finley Hospital and later transferred to Deniliquin Hospital where his condition improved.

At a Cobram Red Cross gathering on a Wednesday evening a presentation was made to Sgt Pilot Hanrahan and LAC Linehan ahead of their departure for duty. Cr O Dwyer noted POW Fund support for Cobram’s thirteen prisoners of war and urged community aid for uniforms and necessities. The guests received good wishes for safe, swift returns and the evening ended with songs and thanks to the Ford for canteen orders.

Grass fire destroys fencing and threatens Mulwala estate

A grass fire started by a petrol truck near Mulwala road threatened the Yarrawee Estate at Baringa. The blaze burned about 400 acres of pasture and fencing before firefighters contained it. The truck and suitcases with clothing and tools were burned, while the driver steered the vehicle toward a trench to prevent broader damage. Additional outbreaks were reported along the road but were quickly controlled by local farmers and the Bush Fire Brigade.
