Community Dance at Mr Collie’s Residence

A social gathering at Mr R A Collie’s spacious residence featured cards and dancing with music by Mc L Lefly. Vocal items were performed by Messrs Doyle and guests enjoyed supper prepared by Mesdames R A Collie and E H Coldwell before continuing dancing into the early hours.

Death of Alexander Robertson known as Sport at 50

Alexander David Robertson called Sport, age 50, died of heart failure early Friday. He had worked for the office four years and was described as genial and quiet. The funeral was held Saturday at Cobram Cemetery with Rev. C F Gribble conducting. He leaves a father, brother and sister. Mortuary arrangements were by J T McFarlane.

Commonwealth Loan details announced by Federal Treasurer

The Commonwealth Loan of 10,000,000 was announced by Federal Treasurer E Theodore. It bears 6 percent interest, matures 15 November 1938, and can be subscribed at par. Applications may be lodged at banks or money order offices across Australia with options for full payment or 10 percent deposit plus flexible instalment payments. Proceeds fund Commonwealth and State public works. In initial days £74,010 was subscribed by 1,113 subscribers.

Fire destroys Tatara Agricultural Society building

From the Tatara Agricultural Society precinct near Finley the building was gutted by a Monday afternoon fire. A large gathering of farmers and landowners from West Deniliquin Balranald Toumes Blighs Cores Berrigan Jerilderie Finley discussed a proposed water scheme for the basin from Berrigan west through Finley to Deniliquin and toward the Balranald railway line. Delegates passed resolutions urging the NSW Government to pursue the plan and seek official action.

Mucktah Footballers Hold Annual Ball at Yar toweyah Hall

About 50 couples danced at the Mucktah footballers annual ball held Wednesday evening in Yar toweyah Hall. Gervacolli's orchestra provided music and drew encores. The event was organized by president Jos Kennedy and secretary L Lovergan with red and black streamers decorating the hall and dancing continuing into the early hours.

Marriage of Stella Frances to Albert Hodgson at Scots Church Melbourne

Stella Frances eldest daughter of Cobram residents wed Albert Hodgson youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs Hodgson at Scots Church Melbourne on Wednesday June 11. Rev B T Buntine officiated. The bride wore ivory frock with cape effect and diamente train, tulle veil, orange blossom, and a bouquet of white azaleas and orchids. Bridesmaids wore embossed georgette gowns. trainbearer Olive Just wore white georgette. Best man was B Paton, groomsman R Adams. Reception at Hotel Windsor with lavish attire and gifts noted. The Hodgsons reside at East Kew.

Each packet requires a customs declaration from the sender and must be posted at a post office.
