Berrigan Shire Council Meets Deliberations and Requests

At the Berrigan Shire Council meeting presided by Dr S Cruickshank the council discussed cancelling all Snow Leases in the Murray River catchment, considered consent to restrict Wodonga omnibus service to Camp Tocumwal, and deferred finance questions for Region 2. The meeting noted affiliation with the Forestry Advisory Council of NSW and rejected J E Sharp’s Pineus Ensignus tree request. Officers reported on Barooga water line, Barooga sheep complaints, and agreed to impound strays and meter extensions with Dempster. Suggestions were made to inspect Ridely roads and address noise at Tocumwal rail station.

Local note announces Cobram Baby Health Centre will be open on Wednesday evenings from June 20 due to restricted Yarrawonga travel. Cobram market reports 1105 local sheep yarded on June 2 with 738 sold amid drier conditions and easier prices. A Mornington butcher helped by buying two truckloads. next Cobram sale set for July 5.

Obituary for John J. O'Dwyer of Cobram

The death of John J. O'Dwyer of Cobram is announced. Born 1865 near Kilmore, he lived at Avanmore Tabilk, Glenfield Boomanoomana, and Glen a Cobra. A noted athlete, horseman, and racing official, he helped found Cobram and Nagambie clubs, and with brother T J O Dwyer built the O Dwyer Bros coursing name. Survived by five sons and five daughters, wife predeceased him. Funeral held Monday at St Joseph’s Chi follows a service.
