Cobram East Junior Red Cross held a cacre party May 16 at State School with a lively crowd and £1/5/- profit. A senior Buick car owned by Dr G Kennedy was stolen, found abandoned near Narrandera after witnesses saw two men drive it through town. Corona Police Count heard a May 4 case at Mulwala where Patrick Newton and others injured Robert Bell. they were sent to Albury Quarter Sessions. Community singing at Cobram Football Club night drew about 200. a mouth organ band impressed, followed by dancing. Empire Day May 24 featured a school programme and sweets for children, Miss Maloney’s upcoming wedding celebrated with a teaset gift.
The Church of England Ball scheduled for Wednesday features a varied programme with the Gervasoni tail orchestra and a set supper. tickets priced at 5/ and all proceeds to be used locally. The Queen Mary liner expansion details include a large deck crew and officers, with a total complement cited. Wheeler's Shepparton Orchestra provided music as the floor was widened and decorated with mauve and violet streamers and autumn leaves. Two supper sittings served a well‑dressed crowd, with Miss Hanrahan performing during the interval as the pleasant function concluded around 2.40 p.m.
The marriage of Mora Whitty, daughter of Mrs Whitty and the late Mr P Whitty of Tungawak, to Herbert Hansen, second son of Mrs Hansen and the late Mr Hansen of Katunga, was celebrated with a Nuptial Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Tungameh on 9 May. The bride wore figured satin with lace and a close-fitting hat, bridesmaid Miss Pat Whitty wore dull green tulle, and the best man was Mr L Hansen. A reception followed at the Tungamah Hotel with iceland poppies and marigolds in decor.
APESONU nurs Miss Mollie McCormack has begun a three year training course at Mooroop wa. Sevanon winamson, rector of Tocumwal, left for Sydney then will sail on the Nauru Chief at Newcastle for six weeks of chaplaincy work under the Bishop of Polynesia. On returning from Melbourne Thursday evening, a car carrying Mr and Mrs F. Stillard and Mc H. Shacklock collided with a stationary motor transport with no lights, causing Stillard to suffer shock and facial injuries.
In a playoff Mr J Jones and Mrs Parkinson defeated Wes. Learmonth and Mise Learmonth to claim the mixed foursomes title at Katamatite. Final scores show Jones Parkinson 40 to Learmonth Learmonth 46 with other pairings recording 52 and 40 plus 68 in earlier scores.
The Cobram Golf Club held a lively gymkhana with guests from Katamatite Tongamah Benalla Yarrawonga Jerilderie Numurkah Tocumwal and others. Prizes in Men’s Canadian Handicap went to Mather and Hester, Ladies events to Gorman and McNamara, with J Carter winning the Men’s Singles.
