Cobram notices span meetings and vandalism at ag society

Local notices announce the Cobram Red Cross annual meeting on Tuesday August and the Murray Valley Irrigators Protection League meeting on Thursday August. A letter warns of wanton destruction at the Cobram Agricultural Society showground including broken windows and fences, praising the public grounds. A draft of sixty prime lambs from Berrigan to Newmarket sold at a high price, bred by T A Dalgleish, marks a district record for weight and finish.

District Farewell for Hicks Family at Boo manoomana

A large crowd gathered in Mr Collie’s barn Boo manoomana to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Hicks and their family as they leave the district after a long residence. Dr E Coldwell chaired the event with speeches from Cr B Collie and several locals and a hearty supper was served by local wives and daughters.

Cobram Agricultural Society Holds Annual Meeting

The Cobram Agricultural Society met at Mechanics Hall with a small attendance. President T H P Roe chaired, noting limited functions until normal conditions return and reporting £70 in arrears reduced by about £20, with some donations accompanying payments.

Election of Officers and Appreciation in Society Meeting

The meeting moved to re-elect Mr. Roe as President for the coming year and to re-elect other officers and committee members. Mr. Roe expressed willingness to serve again and urged broader interest. A minute was recorded noting Cyril White’s valued service, especially in the dog section, with the secretary supporting the tribute.

Departure of Cobram Senior Constable Bentley to Melbourne

A round of cordial gatherings last week marked Senior Constable Bentley's impending departure from Cobram after his recent promotion to senior rank. The Cobram Air Observation Corps, the local Fire Brigade, personal friends, and justices of the peace all held events to express appreciation and bid him farewell with gifts and best wishes for his future in Melbourne.

Obituary: John Lonergan of Cobram East Dies at 73

The death occurred on Thursday last of Mr. John Lonergan of Cobram East after a brief illness at age 73. He had a long, active life on the land and supported local groups including the Agricultural Society and the Cobram branch of the Victorian Country Party, serving as Cobram’s delegate at the last annual meeting.

We Yarroeyah Soldiers Welfare Committee Officers Reelect

At the annual meeting of the Yarroeyah Soldiers Welfare Committee the following office-bearers were reelected for twenty months: President RW Munge, Vice-President G O Brien, Secretary W Ward, with a strong committee. The year ends June 30 1943 with a balance sheet showing receipts and expenditures. The committee asks for continued support and attendance at monthly meetings on the first Tuesday each month.

Yarrowsey Soldiers Welfare Committee Annual Meeting

At the annual meeting O’Brien and Miss Madge were re elected Presider ary and Vice Presides Mrs Stokes and Mrs Muses. During the year 42 sleeveless pullovers 3 patterns and 2 oiled wool pullovers were made and sent to the War Vice Fund at Anzac House. Monthly sales from tea and market stalls raised £27 7/10.

Engagement Announced for Loral Ruth Edwards and Private Clements

The engagement of Loral Ruth Edwards eldest daughter of Reg Edwards Camr Street Junee to Private abc Clements AIF Beriign is announced. The marriage was at Scot's Church Melbourne with Sister Marjorie Allen attending. Private David William Bailey, youngest son of Mrs Bailey Ber gen, has returned. Trew Alex Browne of Katamatite reportedly seriously wounded in New Guinea, with a death following the wounds. Sympathy extended to the bereaved parents. deceased was the oldest child and only son, age 23, death occurred Sunday 1th July.

Revue to Visit Cobram for Hello Everybody Show

The Yarrawonga Theatre Pinytte will present the revue Hello Everybody in Cobram on Monday evening August 2. A large cast led by Chael Cockerham and Owen Dubeo will perform with bright music and sketches. Proceeds go to the Schools Swim, with bookings urged to avoid misses.
