Lieut Johnson Leads Patrol Through New Guinea Skirmish

Lieut F G Johnson commanded a patrol moving through kunai to high ground when hit by machine gun and rifle fire. Pte Archie Strang was wounded in the leg, Pte Alan Carter killed the attacker. The unit pressed a flank attack under mortar and Bren gun fire, but withdrew with three wounded and one stretcher case.

Hospital costs crease show surplus and losses

Acting secretary E A France told Mooroopna hospital board last week the maintenance account will show a surplus of 169 pounds. The balance sheet, not yet audited, also shows a 2200 pound loss in the intermediate section. Total cost was 15 2 per patient per day for all services with infectious patient treatment set at 14 shillings 6 pence per day plus 1 shilling 4 pence medical fee for the coming year.

Boxing and Wrestling Show Boosts Comforts Fund

A Boxing and Wrestling program at the Mechanics' hall attracted Australian fighters from Melbourne. The event raised about £100 for the Cobram Comforts Funds due to Gen Langlands efforts. Contests featured Dunn versus Frewin, Johnson refereeing, and multiple draws and exhibitions.
