Naring East Farewell for Trooper Lukies at Welfare Meet

Murray Valley Irrigation District plans August water access
At a Thursday meeting the Murray Valley Irrigation District Advisory Board requested the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission to supply water from August 1 due to drought. They discussed a raster delivery system, seasonal timing, irrigation charges, and urged landholders to sow green feed and prepare land with temporary check banks. The Commission agreed water will be available from August 1 and overtime work is planned to repair channels before filling. Local farmers are urged to contact the Cobram District Engineer for work opportunities.

Next Saturday signals the third anniversary of the Voluntary Defence Corps formed from Returned Soldiers League efforts to recruit 1914 18 veterans unfit for overseas service. The VDC grew to a local branch with 40 men under an officer in charge, training weekly in discreet locations.
