Cobram Cycle Club plans a plain and fancy dress ball at Mechanics Institute with prizes and a parade at 1 0 p m. Ryan’s Orchestra for entertainment.
At a July committee meeting the Tocumwal Golf Club approved course alterations per Mr Scott and planned to apply to the Victorian Golf Association for a late August tournament. E A Henderson was elected Captain. Members’ subscriptions were due June 30 and nonmembers are playing the Links. Visitors’ green fees apply to both locals and visitors.
The Cobram Agricultural Society announces appointed stewards for the forthcoming annual show on Tuesday October 11 1927. A long list covers divisions from draught and light horses to sheep pigs dogs farm produce wool dairy and culinary arts and more with shed supervisors and machinery sideshow chiefs named. volunteers are asked to notify the secretary if unable to serve.
The prize list committee met on 10th ultimo to revise the 1917 show. Members included T. N. Harris chair Geo Ritchie P. McCORMack A R Wadeson W H Jordan Hamilton S O Gregory Benson C White G Grant W B He W J Ritchie Jno Millerick J Lonergan C Stanbury J C Harris. Due to few entries several classes were deleted and others added. total rises to 315 from 309. Major changes include removals in Thoroughbred horses and Trotters, time test district 11st for handicap trot, pairs hunters added, best test cow removed, two new Merino and Shropshire classes in Sheep, Romney Marsh added, and needle and facework restrictions.
A Cobram Fire Brigade Ball at the Mechanics' Institute drew 80 to 90 couples despite rain that kept some away. Guests enjoyed greenery decor, balloons, and a well managed floor with Ryan's Jazz Band providing music. Supper by town ladies featured Iceland poppies and artistic table settings.
The annual stocktaking at Brown and Corke stores ends with many lines needing clearing. New but seasonal goods go to make room for arrivals, offering mothers affordable school fits and overcoats for men and youths at low prices. Millinery and hosiery are heavily reduced for a limited sale.

The State Savings Bank reports long term loans to farmers under the Credit Fencier system, totaling about £530,000 to around 420 farmers in the year ended 30th June. Since 1896 loans to farms have reached £4,750,000 with £4,000,000 repaid, leaving £3,500,000 outstanding to about 4,750 farmers. Distribution by region shows roughly 40% in Gippsland and the south east, 26% in wheat areas and northwest, 18% in the western and southwest districts, and 16% in the Goulburn Valley and northeast.
A Rugby Four Cylinder Stock Touring Car completed a seven day continuous run from noon June 24 to July 1 in Melbourne suburbs with no adjustments. It covered 3526 miles in 163 hours, averaging 53.5 miles per gallon including idling.
