Cobram Hosts After Mildura Tour And Local Visits
Mr and Mrs W. Naughton returned to Cobram after a sixteen day tour of the Mildura district. Mrs T. Shinnick is holidaying in Melbourne. Mr and Mrs Limbrick of Tasmania are holidaying in Cobram with Mrs Limbrick's sister Miss Edna Anning. Ex-president L. J. Michel of the Shepparton district ASSILA was named a Member of the British Empire in the King’s New Year Honors list. Mr Michel served as president for 30 years before resigning two years ago. Mr and Mrs Hoarding of Melbourne visited their brother and sister-in-law Mr and Mrs Broadbent, with Mr and Mrs Tom Cleary of Brunswick. Mr Cleary, Australian amateur billiards champion, recently returned from England after an exhibition at Buckingham Palace.

Victorian Graziers Association president urges withholding provisional income tax assessments until wool clips are sold or precise income estimates exist. Cobram Hosts Victorian Champions and Learn to Swim Certificates
During Christmas holidays five Victorian swimming and diving champions coached by Mr Will French visited Cobram. About 25 local children earned the Herald Learn to Swim Certificate in three days. The visit faced organisation issues and no suitable site for a spring board at Thompson's Beach. Mrs French urged Cobram to build a pool, citing Hamilton’s one day pool project as a model for communal effort.

Yarrawonga Man Injured While Loading Wheat
Darcy Lawford of Yarrawonga was caught in a bag loader on a Clarke Bros. truck while loading wheat on Saturday. He sustained severe injuries and shock, admitted to Yarrawonga District Hospital and later transferred to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for further treatment.

Sid Patterson Sets Australian One Mile Wheel Record
Sid Patterson won the Shepparton Wheel Race final in 1:52 3-5 after conceding 180 yards, beating R. Baker and J. Bartlett. The time set a new Australian record as Patterson surged past rivals in the home straight. He is nephew of Jim Patterson of Cobram, linked to the Phil Patterson Memorial Aces Derby run at Cobram carnival on December 29 in memory of Sid's father.
