At Cobram Court of Petty Sessions on Saturday Robert Basil Smith faced a drunken and disorderly charge. Earlier two lucerne bay stacks worth about 100 pounds were burned in an irrigation property owned by Mr T N Harris. the fire’s cause remains unknown.
Mr McEwen MHR and Hon Inchbold MLA attended the carnival on New Year’s Day. Mrs Ottaway was taken to Mooroopna Hospital during the holidays. The ladies committee raised £29 with tea and soft drinks and publican’s booth adding to carnival funds. A grand procession led by Numurkah Town Land featured many characters and costumes, followed by races, cycle events, Highland dancing, rescue and novelty runs, wood chop, tossing the sheaf, and a Tun gemah district champion in the bar high jump with notable remarks by officials and a mob of residents attending.
Farmers rush harvest operations with motor trucks delivering wheat to Polluwitg Ou Ue. Early indications show total deliveries near last season’s level. By mid December no delays reported as 2 6,000 have arrived, setting a strong seasonal pace.
The ceremony united Phyllis Maud Vincent the second daughter of Mr and Mrs F H Vincent with Reginald Avurew, son of Mr and Mrs W Adams of Lisendoo. Rev E Nye officiated. The bride wore white satin with a long square train and Brussels veil, carried white and pink water lilies. Bridesmaids wore white and carried larkspurs with white water lilies. Best man was Geoff Stewart. ushers included R Vincent and J Burns. After, a wedding breakfast and dance at Grosvenor, Queen the Chupe, Cobram.
