The Cobram Mechanics Institute committee plans a bazaar on Saturday 10 April and seeks wheat fat lambs trust vegetables poultry and other gifts. The institute carries an overdraft of over £2000 with £2 weekly interest and £1 weekly for secretary rates taxes and insurance while revenue from eight months is scarce.
Local notice reports P McFarlane of Cobram Engineering Works has installed the latest electric arc welder. Also warns that all dogs in the Shire of Tungerish must be registered by March 15 with Alsation fees of £2 15s. Mrs G Williamson and husband take over the Saracen's Head Hotel Melbourne. Tenders invited for Berrigan Shire road works closing March 13.
Light showers followed a cool weekend as M C Huggins of Springhurst announced his candidacy for the Indi seat at the forthcoming Federal elections and lodged endorsement as a UCP candidate. Dennys Lascelles Cobram Sheep Sale invites entries from farmers and graziers for a sale at Cobram yards. J McNamara and Co. hold a special sale on Thursday March 11 with 1000 sheep entered and 4000 needed to meet buyers’ demands. Early entries encouraged for advertising and buyer notice. Also Numurkah Horse Sale reports yarding over 100 horses in the year’s opening sale, with prices and destinations listed.
Allegations that a spotlight glare dazzled a truck driver and caused an accident were raised in a County Court action by carrier Lack of Melbourne for £102 8s 1d. Judge Foster W. J. Lack ruled for defendant Goodson of Toolanda, dismissing the claim and noting the lighting of private property could not be negligence.
