Japanese oysters form basis for Australian canning industry
The Minister in charge of Scientific and Industrial Research reported successful transfer of a second batch of seed oysters from Japan to Pittwater Tasmania. About 400,000 seed oysters remain at Pittwater with survival at 30 percent after a long voyage. If spawning and spat fall succeed, the 1947 and 1948 shipments could provide an adequate foundation for a developing Australian oyster canning fishery.

Prevent Fruit Drop With Timed Aerial Sprays
Victorian horticultural officers urge fruit growers to spray trees about ten paces per million to delay fruit drop in Williams pears and Jonathan apples. One spray lasts about two weeks, so apply 8 to 10 days before harvest or immediately before forecast heat or wind. Mix with lead arsenate or DDT or, if alone, half a gallon white oil emulsion per 100 gallons.
