Shire Meeting Days May Be Changed

The shire secretary proposed moving council meetings from the first to the third Monday each month. The council noted past misses due to early June rate collection and January holidays, and Dr Mulquiney gave notice to move the date at the next meeting.

Coach Crash Damages Road Near Cobram

A Murray Valley Coach left the Murray Valley Highway two miles from Cobram on Saturday afternoon and crashed into a fence. The front spring reportedly broke, causing the swerve. All passengers were uninjured, and Miss Alma Shugg of Yarrawonga was the hostess aboard.

Permit officer appointed at Cobram

A letter to Eygamah Shire Council from the Chief Veterinary Inspector in the Live Stock Division of the Department of Agriculture discusses forms and the appointment of Permit Officers under the Sheep Owners Protection Act. Mr Learmonth is proposed for appointment at Cobram based on information received.

Rate Struck On Old Valuation at Council Meeting

Bartlett reported to council that staff cannot prepare rate books for the new valuation with current figures. He said they could have if the valuer had supplied even partial riding data, but no figures have been received. The decision was to use the old valuation and deal with estimates at the meeting.

21st Birthday Party at Dueidar Cobram

Approximately forty guests gathered at Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Johnson's home Dueidar Cobram last Saturday evening to celebrate Geoff Johnson's 21st birthday. Guests enjoyed the warm lawns and gardens, with dancing and competitions led by Mrs. West on piano. Speeches by Bob Sandow, Norman Gilmour, Harry Sheir, and Vern Wyatt praised the hosts and thanked Mrs. Johnson for the supper and hospitality.

Blyth's Beach Drowning Inquest Rules Death As Accidental

At Tocumwal inquest into Claude Munday of Melbourne who died near Blyth's Beach on January 26 the coroner stated accidental drowning. Witness O Weatherill said he saw Munday swim downstream and, five minutes later, tried to reach him but strong currents and river snags prevented saving him. Dr Schlink confirmed death by drowning. Claude Mundy was 35, married, with no family.
