Picola electricity hoped by winter 1940 Shire council

Bulk Handling Of Wheat Railways Cooperate

Acting Chairman C R Henderson of the Grain Elevators Board praised railway co operation before the bulk handling of wheat scheme. He noted railways facilitation in site selection siding work platform alterations and track adjustments to suit elevators and the timely delivery of materials. He urged train crews to maintain a steady flow of trucks ensuring elevators receive wheat from district farms.

Spirit of Progress S class locomotives prove popular in Australia

Predictions that the Spirit of Progress would be a traffic builder have been amply fulfilled. In its first year from November 28, 1937, it carried 209,000 passengers, 28,000 more than the Sydney Limited. The second year ending November 22 showed 222,311 passengers, up 13,223 from 1937–38. The non stop Melbourne to Albury run reaches 70 mph. Since April 1928 the S class has logged 2,243,940 miles to November 23, with annual mileage per locomotive averaging 59,114 in the year ended June 30, higher than other classes.
