It recommends concentrating work, expanding water and drainage schemes, and funding via borrowings and rates, warning against fragmented past road works and urging shire office construction and public facilities.
Cobram East ratepayers urge a separate administration due to the expansion of irrigation and settlement. They argue Tungamah Shire is unwieldy and underrepresents North-West riding, causing high travel costs and misallocated rates. They claim a Cobram-based council would cut staff and travel, improving roads and services for irrigation areas and closer settlement near Cobram. Katamatite locals criticise unkept promises from Tungamah and warn Katamatite could become “the promised land” if the new shire fails.
