Shire Council plans remedies under the Local Government Act to curb hedges that overhang streets. Owners must keep streets clear of seedlings and off-sets and prevent branches from intruding on roads. If overhang persists, the council may issue written notices to offenders.
The notice requires the owner or occupier to remove certain items within fourteen days failing which the council may remove them. It also covers tree overhang rules, and the occupier may deduct removal costs from rent due to the owner.
