The Cobram club celebrates improved facilities boosting the social atmosphere at an open tournament. Members and visitors praised the clubhouse renovations and catering. A. O'Brien won the 36-hole A grade scratch title. P. R. Pullar claimed B grade with 193. Other ladies and men's prizes listed with numerous entrants from regional clubs. The president D Spence thanked volunteers and guests for a successful event.
The Yarroweyah Branch RSL Women's Auxiliary met August 3 in Yarroweyah hall with 14 members and six apologies. Knitted socks and mittens were parcelled for War Veterans' Homes. An August 20 fundraising ball was planned, catering assigned, and delegates for Melbourne conference appointed. Afternoon tea followed.
The engineer told Shire Council on Monday his office is too small and the current space hampers work. The president proposed moving the old supper room to create an engineer's office with Army consent. On motion, the new and secretary were tasked with arranging the transfer.
The Cobram Shire Council president Dr. Jordan said at a Weights and Measures Union meeting that prosecutions moved to lower courts place fines in consolidated revenue but appeals to higher courts could leave the council paying costs if the decision went against them.
The court heard the accused fired at a youth after years of taunts over his disabilities. He claimed the gun was for protection and admitted no intent to shoot. Medical evaluation followed and Brown was remanded for trial in Melbourne with bail set at £250.
