A well known farmer of Boon Boomens recently won a prize in state consultation. A meeting of the Cobram and District movement will be held at the Mechanics Institute on Monday next, August 8, at X o'clock to discuss committee recommendations on funds allocation and timing. A large attendance is desired. The Muckatab Footballers' ball will be held at the Mechanics Institute Tuesday year with Gervasoni's full ore supplying music and supper arrangements managed by a ladies' committee. Admission is 3/6 for gentlemen and 2/ for ladies. The Tobacco Growers meet heard H. Scott report Melbourne buyers expect satisfactory leaf prices. a buyer will visit Friday to inspect leaf at the railway station.
A farewell evening at the State School honored Mr W Howells and Mr H Brown who received cheques from the Police Promotion Board. An engagement between Elsie Collie and Mr Reynoldson, and the coming of age of a daughter of Mrs Collie were celebrated with a dance and cards hosted by Cr. and Mrs RK Collis with Mr Wilton as chairman.

The Road Transport Commissioner explains a July 21 gazetted rule for visiting non commercial drivers and commercial vehicles crossing the NSW border. Visiting non commercial vehicles require a free three month pass if beyond 14 days or 1 miles from the border, while commercial vehicles over 10 miles from the border face registration and taxes. For cross border traffic over 50 miles with rail competition, charges apply by weight and capacity under the Motor Traffic Act and State Transport Co-ordination Act.
A new talking picture Hell Divers featuring Wallace Beery and Clark Gable portrays the Navy fighting-diving bombers known as Hell Divers.
