The family of the late Mrs Florence Plancke of Station Street Cobram sincerely thanks all who sent letters telegrams cards floral tributes and personal expressions of sympathy during their recent bereavement. Special thanks are extended to Mrs Eva Rembiack and Dr Kennedy.
The Victoria State Government plans to pipe gas from brown coal deposits to shield industry and households from coal shortages. The Yalloum project, if completed, would be the world’s largest brown coal gas scheme and aims to reduce railway fuel reliance by converting locomotives to oil.
A Younger Set Victory Ball raised funds for the Food for Britain Appeal. The editor received £35 from the event and it is understood that similar efforts previously collected £38 and £22 1s 0d, with a £3 contribution noted.
Mrs Margaret Eastman of Malvern stays briefly with relatives. Stewart Woolford ex-RAAF, son of Mr and Mrs C Woolford, celebrates reaching adulthood amid via congratulations. he recently joined the State Saving Bank staff after overseas service. Mrs W R Denson heads to Melbourne for a few days. George Grant of Balwyn and Allan Moore of Melbourne visit locals, with plans for a Melbourne conference and a stop at RSL Sorrento House.
At the Mechanics Hall Cobram Sub-Branch of the Returned Soldiers League held a general meeting with forty members and visitors. The panel for Soldiers' Settlement Advisory Committee was formed and visits by the pensions officer A E Cook to No 31 district were announced with talks on pensions repatriation rehabilitation and reconstruction at Cobram and Mooroopna venues.
The weekend golf contest attracted many members and associates. Geo Little won the 18 holes handicap title marking his second consecutive victory, while Mrs A O'Brien claimed the women's section. Notable scores include Rick 72 and J Fairley 75. The Goulburn Valley Championship will be played at Cobram Links August 9 to 11 as part of the club tournament.
The VRC informs Mannie Lyon's advisers that the committee will not reopen the Dual Gift Betting dispute between H. K. Crozier and Lyons. Stewards ruled in Crozier's favor last week and the bookmaker must pay £2250. Lyons’ advisers were considering any further action.
Cobram State School Mothers' Club held a street stall on Friday afternoon raising £11 15s from cakes vegetables jams and donations. Margaret Sperling won a dressed fowl imitation. Proceeds support the Food for Britain Appeal and club efforts with thanks to donors and helpers.
