Curtin promises larger British forces in Pacific war

Catholic Ball Delights 450 Attend Evening of Dance
The Catholic Ball last Friday drew about 450 patrons who filled the local hall and danced until 3 a.m. Jack Gerragoni's orchestra played 27 dances on a timed program, with supper by the ladies committee under Mrs Haw and Miss Hanrahan. The Yarroweyah hall committee annual meeting on July 24 elected President M A Stokes, vice-presidents H Stokes and M Naughton, secretary treasurer R W Mudge, and all present joined the committee. The June 30 1944 balance showed debits £17/6/9 credits £1/6/3 with overdraft £78 and a £11 working credit. A canvass for the usual 6 shillings subscription was approved.

Obituary of Mrs Florence Donald of Cobram
After a long illness the death occurred on Saturday July 22 of Mrs Florence Donald wife of Mr R Donald of the Cobram Hotel. The late Mrs Donald had resided in Cobram for 19 years and endeared herself to all who knew her. For many years before coming to Cobram Mr and Mrs Donald ran the Farmers Arms hotel at Numurkah. She was charming and accomplished and her kindness earned her many friends who sympathise with Mr Donald in his loss.
