Following a Cobram Chamber of Commerce complaint about stray dogs the shire council decided to set up a dog pound. For the second month in a row Cobram Shire Council spent the morning in committee with the ordinary meeting starting after 1.30 p.m. By 5.30 the agenda only had in ward correspondence completed. The session adjourned to 8 p.m. and ended at 11.30 p.m. Bill councillors stayed all day. Drs. Mead and Fox did not return for the evening portion.
Boundary Road report details a 1.55 mile eastward road from Benalla Tocumwal road with gravelling needs and patching at an estimated £200, plus £50 for further repairs. A palm removal is proposed and a damaged flood cross footbridge should be removed. Formation of 20 chains at the east boundary to move sheep would cost about £40.
Cobram Shire Council previously refused a direct trunk telephone link to Katamatite but renewed the push through Federal Member Hon J McEwen. A letter read at Monday’s meeting from Mr McEwen attached a note from the Director of Posts and Telegraphs stating provision is planned in the upcoming financial year to cover installing the direct Cobram Katamatite trunk line.
The final day featured trophy presentations led by the association president. Winners included Nii den Yates Crow and Gedye took a silver cup in a single event. Pairs winners were Mrs R Bourke and partners with several named members receiving recognition for club work.
