Remembrance ceremonies at Waverley Park Cenotaph and Mount McKay Cenotaph begin 10:20 and 10:30 a.m. with wreaths, scripture, and a luncheon at Fort William First Nation Community Centre.
Outside Thunder Bay residents attend a Kakabeka Falls Legion breakfast on Sunday before Remembrance Day. The volunteer-run hall hosts a long breakfast, wreath laying, and veterans appearances after, with a Piper last year. Branch 225, outside Kakabeka Falls on Highway 11, marked its 75th anniversary in September and sustains itself through events and room rentals.
Local business owners Bianca Garofalo and Steve Vates condemn the metered downtown rates from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. as harmful to revenue and nightlife. Garofalo argues evening hours should extend to 5 or 6 p.m. while Vates notes staff and patrons face costly parking, hurting late day and weekend crowds.
The City of Thunder Bay announced that paid parking will not be enforced on Monday for the Remembrance Day holiday. On municipal holidays, such as Remembrance Day, parking is free at all surface lots and on street meters.
