Seven-year sentence in deadly 2023 hit-and-run case
Jonathan Paypompee, 41, received seven years’ custody for dangerous operation causing death and bodily harm after striking pedestrians Carson Johnson, 42, and Nicole Smith on Simpson Street near Northern Avenue on July 3, 2023. He fled the scene before witnesses and emergency crews arrived at Thunder Bay Courthouse. Johnson died from blunt force trauma. Smith survived with serious injuries.
