Porphyry Island Lighthouse Prepares for Season Opening
The Porphyry Island light house on Black Bay near Thunder Bay readies for the season with 24 host keepers and eight additional crew. Docks moved from storage to Porphyry Harbour thanks to Archie's Fishing Charter and Lighthouse Tours. Water levels are 45 metres below normal, creating more navigational obstructions for boaters. Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior promotes nautical history and regional tourism as shipping, including potash shipments from Thunder Bay, continues to bustle on Lake Superior.
