Poilievre Ejected as Commons Session Ends in Protest

First Nations rally against Ontario nuclear waste plan

In Thunder Bay about 150 supporters joined the First Nations Land Defence Alliance to oppose radioactive waste transport and storage in Ontario. The Nuclear Waste Management Organization targets sites near Ignace and South Bruce with a decision due by year end, while Indigenous communities voice concern over accidents and leaks threatening land and water. Chief Rudy Turtle warns a leak could contaminate wildlife across the Northwest.

Travel grant expands Northern Health Travel Grant program

Ontario allocates 45 million over three years to broaden the Northern Health Travel Grant, removing the 100 kilometre deductible and adding online applications. Minister Sylvia Jones announced at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, noting digital receipts, wider provider eligibility, and mileage based reimbursements. Overnight stay rates rise to 175 dollars, with a 100 kilometre travel threshold, and medical travel companions become eligible for reimbursement.

Folklore Festival brings world dance and food to Fort William Gardens

The 51st Folklore Festival at Fort William Gardens features international foods, performances, and artisans organized by the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association. A children’s area runs daily, with the Parade of Nations at 2 p.m. Saturday and Descarga Latina performing Latin rhythms at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Doors open noon each day. hours are 11 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission ranges from free for u3 to 5 for adults with other rates for seniors and students. A staycation prize at Superior Inn is offered.
