Ontario extends locum doctor incentive for North emergency rooms
Health officials welcome a six month extension of the Temporary Locum Program to Sept 30. Northern hospitals like Dryden Regional Health Centre and Lake of the Woods District Hospital say locums prevent emergency department closures and keep services viable during staffing shortages. Local doctors praise the move as crucial to maintaining 24 hour ER coverage and attracting physicians.
