Cleanup continues amid solitude at Porphyry Island Lighthouse
A journal recounts a solo winter scene at Porphyry Island Lighthouse near Silver Islet on Lake Superior. Andrew Ehn, 23 volunteers from Archie’s Charter, and locals clear debris, build a fire break, and tend a garden with rhubarb and peas while enjoying new views from the 100-step ascent and shoreline scenery. Tours start July 6 with regular sessions every second Wednesday through August.
