Court rules Emergencies Act use in Ottawa protests unjustified
Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley found the Liberal governments 2022 invocation of the Emergencies Act during the Freedom Convoy protests was not justified and violated constitutional rights. The ruling challenges the government’s claims of targeted, time limited measures amid border blockades and Ottawa demonstrations. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said the decision will be appealed.
