Drivers urged to stay off ice on Rainy River

Ontario Provincial Police warn drivers about ice conditions on rivers and lakes this winter after a truck fell through Rainy River Saturday. The vehicle submerged quickly. the driver escaped injury. OPP conduct traffic safety on northern winter roads until seasonal road closure, citing increased traffic and hazards. Public urged to report dangerous driving to 1 800 310 1122.

Bearskin air service ends Thunder Bay to Northwestern Ontario

Perimeter Aviation, Bearskin Airlines parent, will discontinue passenger service from Thunder Bay to Dryden Fort Frances and Kenora effective May 11. Officials warn of serious economic and medical-access impacts for Dryden Fort Frances and Kenora residents and businesses as alternative bus and MedEvac options are considered.

Hockey gear donated to Slate Falls youth

3200 pounds of equipment, equaling 100 bags, was donated to Slate Falls First Nation through Mikinakoos Children's Fund. Teams including Oakville Hornets, Mississauga Senators, Oakville Rangers, and Milton Winterhawks contributed with Purolator and WestJet covering packaging and shipping and North Star Air delivering from Thunder Bay.
