Bank of Montreal to close Schreiber branch at July 2025 end
Schreiber will lose its Bank of Montreal branch, the sole bank for the north shore and Terrace Bay area. Mayor Mullins calls the move devastating as the town foots three weekly money runs. BMO says clients can transition to Harbour Crossing branch in Thunder Bay and other local branches with digital banking support. After closure on July 25, nearest banks will be Royal Bank in Nipigon, TD Bank in Marathon, or Thunder Bay institutions. Senior residents fear impact as about 34 percent of Schreiber’s population is elderly and many do not use online banking.

Ontario funds seniors active living centres with 3.7 million boost
The provincial government funds Seniors Active Living Centres across Ontario, adding 3.7 million for 316 facilities including Thunder Bay sites.
