Winter storm blankets Ontario and Quebec subduing but cleanup lasts weeks
Ontario and Quebec faced a historic snowfall with Toronto receiving up to 25 cm and Montreal about 40 cm in 74 cm since last Thursday. Ottawa logged 70 cm as crews warn of extended closures and widespread travel disruptions. City officials describe the event as exceptional and call for public cooperation as plow crews work for days to weeks to clear roads, sidewalks, and transit routes.

Ottawa Winterlude thrills visitors with historic canal skating
Ottawa hosts Winterlude with the Rideau Canal Skateway open for a strong season. Chicago couple David Wilson and Jackie Eckholm joined crowds, enjoying ice sculptures, maple syrup treats, and rides at Sparks Street and Snowflake Kingdom in Gatineau. NCC reports over 755000 canal visits since January 11, with the 7.8 kilometer skateway fully opening January 18 and an anticipated millionth visit next week. The festival runs through February 17 and features volunteers, mascots, and a buzz of activity celebrating winter and Canadian culture.
