Thunder Bay's economy shows strength with 2023 gains
Local economist Livio Di Matteo of Lakehead University notes that Thunder Bay posted about three percent higher average monthly employment in 2023, adding nearly 2000 jobs. He cites robust activity in public sector construction, retail, tourism, port grain shipments, and continuing activity in construction, forestry and mining, with housing starts growing but unlikely to exceed 240 units annually.
