Explosion Damages Crown Street Home in Thunder Bay
Fire crews responded to a Sunday explosion and blaze on Crown Street in Thunder Bay. The partially collapsed residence was completely destroyed, two neighboring homes sustained smoke and heat damage, and one occupant was treated for burns and released. Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office will begin a multi day probe Tuesday. Fire Rescue deployed eight pumpers two aerial ladders and a command unit. Officials urged proper maintenance of natural gas appliances.

Ontario travel grant upgrades take effect
Rural patients traveling to Thunder Bay and other cities for medical care can now have more costs covered under the Northern Health Travel Grant. The deductible was removed, reimbursing 41 cents per kilometre for travel when care is unavailable within 100 kilometres. Accommodation costs rise to 175 per night for trips over 100 kilometres, with online receipts coming next spring to speed reimbursements.
