Forestry sector holds future growth talk in Thunder Bay
Ian Dunn of OFIA addressed chamber members at the Italian Cultural Centre outlining Ontario’s forest bioeconomy potential and the need to expand new products and markets. He noted dwindling pulp and paper mills, opportunities in clean biomass energy, housing supply, and a large ongoing lumber dispute with rising duties affecting producers.

Lakehead-Guelph plan creates northern veterinary program
Lakehead University and the University of Guelph announce a new veterinary training centre at Thunder Bay. Starting 2027 a northern cohort of 20 students per year will study two years in Thunder Bay and two years in Guelph to address a vet shortage in Northern Ontario. The province funds 4.5 million for construction plus 10.2 million for Guelph, with 2025 and 2026 cohorts completing all studies in Guelph. Thunder Bay officials warn the current need is dire and could fill clinics soon.

Fourth man pleads not guilty in 2022 Richardson killing
The Thunder Bay murder trial of Telique Ricketts opened with the accused denying second degree murder charges in the May 2 2022 Hodder Avenue death of 29 year old Adrian Richardson. Co defendants Jacob Green Aiden Collander and Tenok Banjan faced related pleas and resolutions. Prosecution evidence includes surveillance footage witness testimony and police scene photos. The trial is set for three weeks.
