Four days into a 28 day provincial campaign Social Credit members in South Peace chose Jack Weisgerber a 46 year old businessman as their candidate for the October 22 election at a Dawson Creek nomination. Weisgerber won on the second ballot after Mayor Bob Trail conceded. Four nominees had entered including Trail. continued on page nine.

Chetwynd Council approves TV cable into Crown Subdivision
The District of Chetwynd Council met September 24 with all members present. Chinook Cable LTD and the Airport Development Committee spoke on ongoing projects and yard restoration from utility work. Permission was granted to lay TV cable in the Crown Subdivision, work to start September 25 and completed by October end. Mayor Lasser noted plans to extend service to Rodeo Grounds and Walei Hill. Airport Committee discussed outdoor clubs and initial ball diamond projects. The librarian expansion plans were reviewed and the airport firetruck was set for auction in Surrey. Ald. Hoover stepped down from downtown revitalization chair, Ald Bettin accepted as acting chair. Building permits for the year reach $905,000, up from $870,600 prior year.

Legion Roof Project Progress and Weekend Dance
Stu Garland and six C S S athletes helped five legion members finish the Legion Roof second half begun last weekend. A Shingle Dance fund raiser, miscalled as a Singles Dance on CJDC Community Bulletin, drew strong Fort St John turnout. This weekend features a dart tournament Friday 7 PM, a dinner and dance, and a Sunday Grandparents pancake breakfast.
