Ski Tow Progress In Chetwynd Ushers Community Effort

A joint venture of Catre Industries and Commonwealth Construction will handle foundation work tower erection and conductor stringing with Geddes Contracting responsible for a 34 mile section. A new electric Harusch tow will run about 1100 feet up the hill and lighting and a side run are planned pending volunteer labour. Community volunteers are urged to join a working day on Sunday September 24 bringing tools for hill clearing and tow installation.

Fifty years of service celebrated for Father Emil Jungbluth

Father Emil Jungbluth OMI marked his 50th year in religious life with a High Mass on September 15 1978. Five Oblate Fathers attended. A surprise visit by Father Ceasar Mariman from the old country, who came with Jungbluth 43 years earlier, was shared along with visiting Sisters musicians. The event included renewed commitments by the Fathers Sisters and married couples and a tribute from Father Bill Sweeney praising Jungbluth’s decades of service and humor.

Village development forum outlines future plans

Mayor Lasser Aldermen Hoover and Jackman detailed future development for the Village at a public forum last week. PRLRD Chairman C E Framst discussed regional plans affecting Chetwynd including streets access roads paving subdivisions airport zoning recreation and boundary expansions.

Railway officials to inspect BC line on four day tour

British Columbia Railway Directors and senior officials will tour the North Vancouver to Chetwynd line covering 1054 kilometers starting Tuesday September 16. The itinerary includes coal field tours with BP Canada and ee Mines, a Grizzly Valley gasfield and Pine River visit, a new Pine River gas plant site, a pelletized sulfur plant nearby, Canfor sawmill in Chetwynd, and a civic reception for local officials Chamber of Commerce and railway customers on September 21.

No Negligence Found in Fifth Sewer Backup

Motorcycles Must Be Licensed Warns Police

Police remind residents that unlicensed motorcycles cannot ride on highways or alleys and riding on school property requires principal approval. In the last month four motorcycles were seized and the riders brought to court as part of ongoing enforcement due to rising complaints about dangerous unlicensed bikes on streets.
