B C records oil and gas rights revenue surge in B C
Premier Gordon Campbell announced that British Columbia saw a record 418 million dollars in oil and gas right sales in a single month led by deep wells in the Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd areas. The government counted 417 million from 53 drilling licences covering 176 292 hectares and 1 7 million from 40 leases. Energy ministers noted stronger expectations for investment and jobs with potential up to 3 billion dollars over five years aided by royalty incentives in the oil and gas strategy.

Official warns against scapegoating in mad cow crisis
Canadian CFIA official Rex Copeland urges an end to blame on northern Alberta cattle rancher Marwyn Peaster for the mad cow crisis. He calls the outbreak bad luck not farming faults, while ranchers question disposal of diseased cattle and seek stronger disease controls to protect exports.
