Funding for Chetwynd schools boosts classroom and staff
Education Minister Paul Ramsey announced more than 1 billion dollars over five years for classrooms and staff to meet new BCTFE class size limits. District 59 will receive about 493000 next year with 253000 for primary schools and 240000 for non enrolling staff. Superintendent Charlie Parslow warns funding may be insufficient to meet targets, prompting reorganized intermediate classes and full classes to maximum. Kit Kreiger of BC Teachers Federation says limits improve learning and equity. Final allocations for Chetwynd will be decided midweek with enrollment guiding counselor and staff needs.
