Peace cattle ranchers face hay crisis in Peace River area
Peace River region ranchers face a hay shortage as poor crops and dry weather cut yields. Ken Kennedy of the Peace River Regional Cattlemen's Association says many have little to sell while feed prices spike with Alberta markets paying up to 100 per ton. Calves have fallen from highs above 800 to about 650, with producers predicting tighter margins. Kennedy notes fall pasture will be scarce, forcing earlier feeding and continued herd management near Dawson Creek along the Kiskatinaw River.
