McPherson questions staffing at Chetwynd Hospital
Visiting BC advocate McPherson praised the Chetwynd and District Hospital facility but condemned staffing levels. She noted only one registered nurse on duty for seven long term beds and seven in-patient beds with eight emergency bays, sometimes two RNs, rarely replaced during absences. She highlighted lack of a full-time care aide and only one housekeeper, urging mandatory backfills and proper skill mix, plus broader nurse practitioner utilization to ease doctor workloads. She contrasted budgets with stadium roof spending and urged improved health care and education funding.
