First grads in planer operators training course

$2.1 Billion B C Petrochemical Project Planned

A consortium led by Canadian Occidental Petroleum and Dome Petroleum, with Westcoast Transmission and Mitsubishi, repeats plans for a multibillion dollar British Columbia petrochemical complex. They will file a detailed proposal by December 1 1981 under the province energy plan. The project includes six plants, a coastal wharf, an 800 kilometer pipeline, and would create thousands of jobs and boost local industries.

Tenders called for road contract near Tumbler Ridge BC

Tenders will be opened September 6 for a 9.63 kilometre highway section southeast of Chetwynd near Bullmoose Creek and Wolverine River to Feller's Heights Road. The work includes right‑of‑way clearing drainage bridges and sub ballast gravel stockpiling. part of North East Coal Development with BC Rail and agencies awarding contracts.

B C Rail awards Tumbler bridge and grading deals

The British Columbia Railways awards the third Tumbler Ridge Branch Line contract to Peter Kiewit Sons Ltd for the Parsnip River Bridge at km 3.1 valued at 5,172,280 with work starting immediately and due by summer 1982. 14 bridges total on the route along with earlier awards for Boulder Creek and Table River bridges and a grading contract to North Star Contracting Ltd. for the Parsnip River section plus an east portal prep for the Wolverine Tunnel to Antler Construction Co Ltd. at km 76.7 to 78.3.

Senior Citizens Form Society In Chetwynd district

The Chetwynd and District Senior Citizens Society moved toward registration at last Monday’s meeting by approving bylaws and assigning legal work to solicitor E Roy Cochrane. Membership rose to 68 after a reelection of officers and active recruitment by telephone. The next meeting is set for September 21. An Old Time dance sponsored by the Society is planned for September.

Exploration North 1981 Business Tour Planned

The Vancouver Board of Trade will conduct its sixth annual business development tour of northern British Columbia and Alberta from September 28 to October 2. About twenty-five members will visit Prince George Fort St. John Chetwynd Tumbler Ridge Dawson Creek Edmonton Fort McMurray and the Syncrude Mildred Lake tar sands to meet civic and Chamber of Commerce officials and discuss local economic opportunities.
