Amoco loses bid in first round of Montana road dispute
Saulteau First Nations block Amoco's plan to build the Mt Monteith winter road at Twin Sister Mountains after the B C Supreme Court refused an injunction against the First Nations. The court granted an injunction against John and Jane Doe to permit work on Raw Fire Act while Saulteau's Judicial Review on permits proceeds. Chief Stewart Cameron and Councillor Vern Lalonde condemned the decision, urging church leaders to oppose grazing on sacred Saulteau lands. David Suzuki Foundation voiced support for Saulteau's rights and sacredness of the area, a prophecy linked sacred ground for Saulteau Dunne-Za and Cree peoples. Cameron stressed the land’s sacred status and warned against drilling.
