B C Hydro offers reward for power line vandalism
B C Hydro offers up to 2000 dollars for information identifying vandals who shot a power line near Britannia on August 26. Gunfire cut power to Lions Bay Porteau Furry Creek and Britannia for up to six hours. Bullets damaged one wire and two others of a 60000 volt circuit. Five insulators broke and a wooden cross arm was replaced. Investigators found 42303 calibre cartridge casings at the site.

A motorist saw a near white 1966 or 1967 Valiant at a viewpoint pullout and reported it. Police seek the car and owner. Hydro urges reporting to curb power outages and costs.

Premier Bennett Welcomed In Chetwynd On Five Day North Tour
Premier Bill Bennett and wife Audrey arrived by BC Railway car to a warm Chetwynd reception with village officials Chamber of Commerce and Mrs Wilson presenting a fused plate. Bennett handed the mayor an 8700 cheque as the sixth installment of an 78529 unconditional grant. Camp Sagitawa leaders accepted 4500 for winterizing cabins stalls and washrooms. Other officials included Don Phillips Hugh Curtis Alex Fraser and J Hewitt.

Chetwynd RRAP program offers home repair aid
The Village of Chetwynd participates in the Residential Assistance Program RRAP funded by the Federal government. Grants up to 3700 dollars may be provided with the balance as a low interest loan, total benefits up to 10000 dollars for eligible homes, details available at the Village Office. In September BC Railway carloadings reached 12266, up from 11996 last year, nine month total 117585 vs 115832, with lumber and export wood chips rising while logs declined.

BC moves to standardize pilot training for small airlines
The Ministry of Energy Transport and Communications begins a two day training program at the Victoria International Airport for sub regional air carriers. The trial course uses a synthetic simulator and approach plates with audio-visual aids and aims to standardize instrument and cockpit procedures. It runs six months per cycle, pr oviding no charge to carriers with evaluation after one year.

Chetwynd Chamber Holds Fall Meeting With Outdoor Education Slides
The Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce met at noon in the Hotel for a fall gathering featuring a slide presentation on Outdoor Wilderness classes. Highlights included student activities around Gwillam Lake and the Sukunka Valley with bridges and nature hunts. About 40 classes and 1,400 students have visited local areas. Pat O'Reilly outlined learning outcomes while local firms and the Department of Highways aided the program. No major accidents reported. A October 12th meeting will discuss TV and radio, and Eric Nichols presented Vancouver a book to be placed in the library. Next general meeting planned for early November.
