Moberly Lake Pioneered by Henry Moberly’s Westward Quest
Henry John Moberly, Hudson’s Bay Company employee, journeys north from 1864, settles at Moberly Lake in 1865, and for three years traps and hunts alone in a deer and bear rich region. He notes large moose, caribou, beaver, geese, and ducks, harsh costs of supplies, and encounters with Sikanees. He battles a grizzly in a lengthy chase, and later shoots a massive silver tip bear at close range, confirming it as the same animal chased earlier. After 1868 he leaves the area, selling to the Hudson’s Bay Company and letting the lake bear his name.
