Critters at Moberly Lake Report A Busy Morning
Early today a small flock of juncos and Tennessee warblers foraged near the kitchen window, with robins feeding on rosehips and chickadees at feeders. A white breasted nuthatch foraged upside down on trunks and a pin tailed grouse fed at a feeder, while a great horned owl flew by with five ravens in pursuit. A wandering bear destroyed two wasp nests near the lake trails as wasps larvae attracted the bear’s attention.
Sundials Shaped Clock Direction in Northern Hemisphere
The note explains that before clocks, sundials dictated the sun’s shadow movement, which is clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere. It suggests that if clocks had arisen in the Southern Hemisphere, the term clockwise might refer to the opposite direction due to different solar paths.
