Vancouver area bus service halted by Hydro workers strike
Bus service in Vancouver and surrounding municipalities stopped as Independent Canadian Transit Union members refused to cross picket lines at the main yard near a Hydro substation. About 2,500 IBEW members joined 470 natural gas division workers on strike, with Office and Technical Employees Union locals also picketing. Officials say management will run the control center and no immediate service disruption is expected, while wages are not the primary issue. The unions seek layoff language and an exemption from the Public Sector Restraint Act, with talks ongoing on contracting out work.
