At the District of Chetwynd Council meeting on November 23 a report from the Animal Control Officer described swarms of wild cats near open fields seeking warmth. Residents were urged not to feed them. The officer noted he had to euthanize 30 cats and seven were sent to a vet clinic for treatment, raising questions about continued enforcement.
Unemployment Insurance overpayments totaling 12.4 million dollars were found in the BC Yukon region for the six months ending September 30, 1989. Allan Morris of Employment and Immigration Canada announced that 200,500 claimants received nearly 0.25 billion in benefits while 9,224 investigations led to 2.5 million in penalties and 112 prosecutions.
