Parties choose men in Prince George area races
Three of the four major parties held weekend conventions in the riding with candidates chosen or expected. Liberal Bob Barrie won a unanimous Liberal nomination in Prince George with 130 delegates and guests including Arthur Laing. NDP named Bill Close in Dawson Creek after a tight 29-25 vote over Ted McLarchie. Socreds plan a candidate in every riding with possibilities from Prince George area or Peace country and a January convention in Chetwynd. Conservatives vow to field a candidate though no local meeting yet. Peter Runkle previously carried votes but has moved away.

A Thursday meeting approved advancing the minor hockey program. The outdoor rink at Chetwynd Secondary School will host the winter start, with new executive elected: Joe Schalk president, John Stewart vice president, Al Pritchett secretary treasurer, and Hank Hackett Harry Dakus and Brian Pierce directors. Schalk notes reconstruction is needed with new plywood sideboards and volunteer labor. A work party may be called in two weeks, registration in three, and an executive meeting set for tonight at 8 p.m. in the Elks Hall. attendance urged.
